Google Pixel eSIM Setup — Android 14 – 15
Follow these steps to install and configure your Roaming Kiwi eSIM on a Google Pixel running Android 14 or 15.
Before You Start
- Connect to Wi-Fi. Your Pixel needs an internet connection to download the eSIM profile.
- Check your Android version. Go to Settings → About phone → Android version to confirm you are running Android 14 or 15.
- Have your order email ready. Your Roaming Kiwi order confirmation contains the activation link and QR code you will need.
- Your Pixel must be carrier-unlocked. If your phone is locked to a specific carrier, contact them to unlock it before using a third-party eSIM.
Step 1 — Install Your eSIM
Option A: One-Tap Install (recommended)
This is the fastest way to install your eSIM. Your Roaming Kiwi order confirmation email contains an activation link that works on Android 10 and later.
- 1
On your Pixel, open the order confirmation email from Roaming Kiwi.
- 2
Tap the Install eSIM link. The Android eSIM installer will open automatically.
- 3
Tap Download to install the eSIM profile.
- 4
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete activation.
Option B: Scan QR Code
If you prefer, you can scan the QR code from your order email instead.
- 1
Open Settings.
- 2
Tap Network & internet.
- 3
Tap SIMs, then tap the + button or “Download a SIM instead?”.
- 4
Point the camera at the QR code from your order email.
- 5
Tap Download and follow the on-screen prompts.
Manual entry: On the QR scanning screen, tap “Need help?” or “Use Activation Code” to enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your order email manually.
Step 2 — Label Your New eSIM
After installation, your Pixel will ask you to label the new SIM. We recommend naming it “Travel” or “Roaming Kiwi” so it is easy to identify.
Step 3 — Enable Data Roaming
Data roaming must be turned on for your Roaming Kiwi eSIM to work overseas.
- 1
Open Settings.
- 2
Tap Network & internet → SIMs.
- 3
Tap your Roaming Kiwi eSIM.
- 4
Toggle Roaming to on.
Step 4 — Set APN (if required)
Most Roaming Kiwi eSIMs configure the APN automatically. You probably do not need to do anything here. If you are not getting data after completing the other steps, set it manually:
- 1
Open Settings → Network & internet → SIMs.
- 2
Tap your Roaming Kiwi eSIM.
- 3
Tap Access Point Names.
- 4
Tap the + button to add a new APN. Enter the APN from your order confirmation email in the APN field, then tap the three-dot menu and Save.
If the APN fields are greyed out, the APN has been configured automatically and no action is needed.
Step 5 — Select Your Data SIM
Tell your Pixel to use the Roaming Kiwi eSIM for mobile data.
- 1
Open Settings → Network & internet → SIMs.
- 2
Tap your Roaming Kiwi eSIM.
- 3
Toggle Mobile data to on. This automatically disables data on your other SIM.
Step 6 — Turn Off Your Home SIM
To avoid unexpected roaming charges from your home provider while overseas, turn off your home SIM entirely.
- 1
Open Settings → Network & internet → SIMs.
- 2
Tap your home/primary SIM.
- 3
Toggle “Use this SIM” to off, then tap Turn off to confirm.
Important: With your home SIM turned off you will not receive calls or texts on your home number. Remember to turn it back on when you return home.
Troubleshooting
“No Service” after installing the eSIM
Make sure Roaming is on (Step 3) and Mobile data is enabled on the Roaming Kiwi eSIM (Step 5). Try toggling Aeroplane Mode on and off, or restart your Pixel.
Activation link does not work
Make sure you are opening the link on the Pixel where you want to install the eSIM, not on a computer. Ensure Google Play Services and the SIM Manager app are up to date. Try the QR code method instead.
QR code will not scan
Increase the screen brightness on the device displaying the QR code. On the QR scanning screen, tap “Need help?” or “Use Activation Code” to enter the details manually.
Slow or no data connection
Check the APN settings (Step 4). Restart your Pixel. You can check your remaining data balance at roamingkiwi.nz/usage.
Still getting charges from home provider
Your home SIM may still be active. Go back to Step 6 and make sure the SIM is fully turned off.
